Kid Shopping

What a lovely day at work, bringing in an, at least, 7 foot tall corn stalk, roots and all.

My kiddos loved it! Though, a lot of them thought it was fake. Go figure. But, they learned a lot from reading some fun facts about corn, how it grows, being able to touch, see, and a few did smell the ears of corn…

Just glad they didn’t eat it.

So. I made them observe the corn stalk and then draw their perspective on what it looked like through their eyes.

One example:

Not too bad for a 2nd grader. 🙂

Can’t wait for the rest of my artsy fartsy crafts this week. – popcorn is in the near future.

After a fun day at work.

But, alas, I make my way to the kitchen to find my younger sister….

KID SHOPPING!! Haha.

Not really shopping for kids. It was a joke. My sister, Hannah, decided to push my daughter around in the shopping cart. As my mother said “they went shopping and found a peanut.” Because Kate’s nickname as an infant was Peanut.

Never a dull moment in this house of 12 people and 6 cats. :p

Hopefully tomorrow is as lively as today.

Happy Veterans Day!

The Colours of Decay and Death

20131111-193533.jpg

Fall is all around us. The magnificent glow of the leaves. The deep umbers, gold, yellow, ultimately, the colours of decay.

I never had that thought until I met Jack. He always thought it was funny, how everyone loves the colours of the leaves during fall. I asked him one day, “Why?” He answered, “Well you see, the leaves are dying… So…you like death?”

Hmmm… Yeah. I guess us Autumn lovers, love death.

But either way. I love Autumn. Being able to curl up in front of a fire, drinking hot cider. I however, am not a fan of the cold, damp weather. Nor, the time change.

I decided to take some photos of the “Death of Fall” for everyone. Enjoy.

Junk food holiday

20131111-122703.jpg

Well. So much for my junk food holiday. Back to eating right, working out, and staying fit/healthy.

Yummy salad with red wine vinegar, mushrooms, tomatoes, and cucumbers as of a few days ago.

Today, just finished running and doing some light weights, etc.

There’s chicken in the oven and about to cook up some quinoa. 🙂

My next To-Dos would be taking a shower, feeding the kids, and getting ready for work.

Yay. Xoxo

What a journey

20130815-215416.jpg

I found this exquisite butterfly in my backyard today. There were two, actually. One with an amazing blue color, and this little one, with torn up wings where the blue should have gone.

To me, this butterfly was a warrior. Chewed up yet still flying on.

Ever feel like you or your life is a bit chewed up? Don’t let that get you down. There is so much out there for you. You just have to find it. Just like how this butterfly found our flowers in our backyard. To you, that may not seem exciting. “It’s just a butterfly. And it’s just a flower.”

You’re wrong. Did you know that when they reach full maturity, that they can live for a week up to a year. This little guy has to squeeze in everything in such a short time. They serve as an example. Life is short, so you have to make the most of it.

Don’t let predators attack you and leave you hanging! Get back up and fight. Find what you’re meant to do. Help others. Your life with all of the good and bad is still a beautiful and wonderful thing. No matter how beaten up, torn, or chewed on, or “broken” they may be, they are still very beautiful. And so are you. You may have been torn down a few times. But like the butterfly, you should be able to fly onward. You mean something. You are worth something.

Goodnight everyone. Smile. And pleasant dreams. When life gets you down – just keep living, loving, breathing, swimming, flying, and everything else you do!

Guava Unity Candle

20130810-205234.jpg

So, I had an order on Etsy, mind you, my first customer on there. Well…I had originally posted a unity candle customization about 3 or 4 months ago.

So I had to familiarize myself with all of the buttons, links, etc. crazy stuff! I normally work locally. But this time, it was to West Virginia. Wowza!

A lady wanted a guava unity candle.
I never say no! So. Off I went to David’s Bridal and bought a guava fabric swatch, went next door to Hobby Lobby. It took me an hour to pick out ribbon that matched!

The very next day, I picked up the candles that I needed, and a few other supplies, including the key. And once I got home, I started on it right away. She is having a steam punk theme, so instead of leaving the candles plain off-white, I painted them to look marbled/grudge -ee. However you wanna put it. But I think it turned out lovely. I can’t wait to send it to her. And I definitely can’t wait for my next order.

I can’t tell you how happy I was when I saw that someone made an order. It was awesome!!

Pretty sure this is actually the colour coral lol. If I find the swatch in storage (which I still have it, I saw it while packing) I will double check.
